Well, the 2009 Woolly Worm Festival is history and so is the 2009 Trick or Treat on Main Event. Both had to contend with rain and chilly weather but opened on time and were smashing successes.
In PEP, we've continued Karate classes every Thurday at 6 PM for kids and have tried to interest more adults in taking self-defense courses, despite some interest, we can't get enough (5 minimum) to commit to the class to hire an instructor. Tumbling class for the kids is going on every Wednesday at 5:30 PM and Thursdays at 4:30 you can find the lady and gentlemen (yes gentlemen) quilters hard at work in our conference room. We just recently finished a course on Microsoft Office 2003. And instructor came in from Lees College and had 10 ladies in each Tuesday and Thursday for 6 weeks learning how to use Microsoft Office, Excel and Publisher.
The Community Artists came through like pros and we finally have a gallery to show the world. Talk about talent. I'll post some pictures here to show you. The only way to do this work justice; however, is to come in and see it.

August events at Pep

Just a little reminder of some of the things going on at PEP the rest of August.

On Monday, August 17, we had 50 show up to hear Mr. Bob Mitchell, Congressman Hal Roger's District Administrator, speak about operation UNITE.

We've sponsered two Open Mic nights without any takers and have one more scheduled for Thursday, August 27 at 7 PM in the PEP Bldg.

Last week PEP sent out letters to 32 Faith Based groups to invite them to visit PEP and take advantage of our free services. We've had responses from four. Hopefully, we will find new avenues to building a cohesive force against the drug culture.

Brenda and Chuck are both in the schools teaching the anti-chemical abuse curriculum two days a week.

We are currently soliciting local artists to put their work in our "Between the Festival Gallery" We've had locally produced art on display for the last couple of weeks, but are looking for more artists and craftsmen to show their work through the Wooly Worm Festival.

We Have received a $4,600 grant to develop a website and invite everyone interested in making it successful, to attend our fellowship meeting on September 21 at 7 PM.

PEP MUSICAL REVIEW

Auditions
PEP, thanks to an Operation Unite grant, will be producing a musical review late this Spring or early this Summer (depending on the cast).
A musical review, for those who haven't spent most of their adult life (like me) involved in the performing arts, is a group of songs put together around a common theme: Examples of themes are: Frank Sinatra, Love Songs of Broadway, Country Roads.

These are easier than plays or musicals for many because people are singing songs they already know and tyeing it all together doesn't require a lot of lines. Depending on the cast, there might also be group numbers added to spark things up.

Join the fun. This is open to all ages because it's all about learning something, entertaining others and having fun.

Auditioning is easy. Sing Acappella (no instrument accomaniment). Sing with an instrument. Sing to a CD/Tape.

Call PEP at 606-464-0494 and ask for Chuck to make an appointment to audition. Auditions are from Monday, 27 April to Thursday, 29 April.

Make Tax Day 2009 Brighter

What is Recyclable Art????? Well, in this instance, it's bits and pieces of pages cut out of old magazines and glued on to a piece of cardboard or foam board. Instead of using paint to apply color to your picture, you find the color in a magazine, cut it out and glue it on. There's a completely different texture and brilliance to the art work.

And the added benefit of doing Recyclable Art is that it cuts down on paper going into the dump. And this might only be the beginning. This could be the pathway art form that leads to welding cars together or building houses out of aluminum cans. The possibilities are endless.

Join Cheryle Walton every Wednesday starting at 5 PM in the PEP building to explore the possibilities. It will be fun.
