PEP MUSICAL REVIEW

Auditions
PEP, thanks to an Operation Unite grant, will be producing a musical review late this Spring or early this Summer (depending on the cast).
A musical review, for those who haven't spent most of their adult life (like me) involved in the performing arts, is a group of songs put together around a common theme: Examples of themes are: Frank Sinatra, Love Songs of Broadway, Country Roads.

These are easier than plays or musicals for many because people are singing songs they already know and tyeing it all together doesn't require a lot of lines. Depending on the cast, there might also be group numbers added to spark things up.

Join the fun. This is open to all ages because it's all about learning something, entertaining others and having fun.

Auditioning is easy. Sing Acappella (no instrument accomaniment). Sing with an instrument. Sing to a CD/Tape.

Call PEP at 606-464-0494 and ask for Chuck to make an appointment to audition. Auditions are from Monday, 27 April to Thursday, 29 April.

FASHION SHOW

These lovely beauties teamed with area school and professional artists to put on a Spring display of Color last weekend. The Sun came out just long enough to make these flag girls, soft ball players, soccer players, farmers and bookworms bloom into fashion models. Well done ladies!

Make Tax Day 2009 Brighter

What is Recyclable Art????? Well, in this instance, it's bits and pieces of pages cut out of old magazines and glued on to a piece of cardboard or foam board. Instead of using paint to apply color to your picture, you find the color in a magazine, cut it out and glue it on. There's a completely different texture and brilliance to the art work.

And the added benefit of doing Recyclable Art is that it cuts down on paper going into the dump. And this might only be the beginning. This could be the pathway art form that leads to welding cars together or building houses out of aluminum cans. The possibilities are endless.

Join Cheryle Walton every Wednesday starting at 5 PM in the PEP building to explore the possibilities. It will be fun.

The Week, after lots of rain which finally left for a day, started off with a rousing morning of Soccer. The 10 kids and parents who showed up at 10 AM on Saturday waded through the tall wet grass and got things started off with a few heated games as the sun rose and added to the warmth of the day.

Monday closed with 12 folks showing up for "Gord Painting" with Leighandra Shouse at PEP and 18 of Lee County's most beautiful and poised girls at Pine Crest Camp with Ms. Cecille Booth preparing for the Fashion Show on Saturday, 11 April, at 2 PM. There are still many striking dresses for sale at ridiculously low prices. They will all be available at the Fashion Show as well as at the PEP building during normal working hours.

Tuesday, the Mountain Proud Teen Safety Squad is working on a proclamation for the Mayor and County Judge's signatures proclaiming May Teen Safe Driving Month. Brian and Cindy will be here in the evenings with Karate at six and Yoga at seven. There's always room for more in these classes, but thay are gaining in popularity

Wednesday has John Powell back in the building with his Landscape painting class at 10 AM. There's anywhere from 4 to 14 attending one or both of his classes. Representatives from Youth Sports and Curtain Call Dance studio are having sign ups today for the May 6 hip hop tumbling classes between 5 and 6. Alyssa Estes has cancelled her Guitar Lessons for today only and will be back next Wednesday at 4.

Thursday is the tough day at PEP this week with John Powell Landscaping at 5, Brian teaching Karate at 6, and Cindy bending spines at 7:30.

Saturday the soccer kids will meet at Moore Town Soccer Field (drive up to the new water plant and it's on the other side) at 10 and at 2, local artists will have art on display and 18 striking and graceful ladies will glide down the runway at 2 PM in PEPs first Fashion Show.

Sports Opportunities in Lee County

I've been perusing the papers and posters around the county and I've come up with a list of sporting activities for the entire family. I don't have everything but here's what I do have.
Youth Haven is sponsering a Volleyball League Sundays from 1-3.
PEP is sponsoring a Youth Soccer League Saturdays from 10-12.
Lee County Recreational Center has a Bowling League on Thursdays and open lanes at all other times.
Lee County Youth Sports is winding up Little League and Pee Wee Basketball and starting their Baseball and Softball Leagues in May.
There is a Walking Club that meets every Mon, Wed, Fri at 8 AM on Happy Top.
There's alway fishing, hiking, and boating to do in the area as well. Numerous organizations are always putting the word out to attract more participants. You don't have to be the best on the field or court to enjoy playing sports. It's all about challenging yourself, getting a little exercise, and having fun.
