PEP Ski/Snowboard/Tubing Trip to Perfect North Slopes

On Saturday, February 23rd, 2008 the PEP Coalition took ten students from Lee County High School and Lee County Middle School to Perfect North Slopes in Lawrenceburg, Indiana for a day of fun in the snow.

Here you can see a group of our boys trying out the bindings on their snowboards and trying to get used to the new and uncomfortable feeling of snowboard boots. Before venturing out to the hills on their own, each participant took the time to go through the ski/snowboard school to learn basic skills in the snow. Needless to say, there was a lot of time spent laying in the snow wondering how to get back up.

With the end of the ski season near, there was a very large crowd of people out on this day. Our kids handled themselves perfectly though, and picked up their skills quickly. Terry and I along with the other chaperons were very proud of the group, who behaved themselves perfectly and made every minute of the opportunity count.

For those of you who have never been skiing or snowboarding, it is much harder than it looks. Flying out of control down the hill and falling are surprisingly easy, but maintaining course and stopping while standing do not come naturally. Hats off to all of these kids for sticking with it.

After an afternoon lunch, we decided to go as a group to the tubing park for some high speed fun. Though crowded, there was only about a 15 minutes wait between each ride. A long conveyor belt that you step on and ride carries you all the way to the top of the hill, so really all of the work is taken out of the equation. We spent the rest of our day here.

By the end of the day, everyone's feet were cold and hurting from their ski boots, so hot chocolate and a warm place in the van to ride home were welcomed. Though the ride was a little cramped, we all survived and made the trip safely. PEP would like to say thank you to all of the participants, and we hope to bring you updates on future trips soon.
